Our Fishing Locations

Due to the wide geographic area from which our members come, the Port Albert Fishing Club has adopted an equally extensive definition of its official fishing waters. Unlike many fishing clubs that limit their boundaries to a local bay, river, or stretch of coastline, the club recognises a much broader fishing region.

Our designated waters extend from the western side of the Western Port entrance, excluding Phillip Island and Port Phillip Bay, and continue east along the Victorian Coastline to the seaboard border of New South Wales.

Freshwater fishing locations include any publicly accessible waters throughout Victoria, as recognised by the Victorian Fisheries Authority (VFA).

Naturally, the majority of our members fish within Corner Inlet, including its entrances and surrounding waters that extend into Bass Strait up to the three nautical mile (3NM) limit.

Our designated waters extend from the Western side of the Western Port entrance, excluding Port Phillip Bay. Club waters extend to the 3 nautical mile (NM) limit of Victorian Waters. The Cliffy’s group is outside the 3NM limit but are within Victorian jurisdiction therefore the 3 NM limit extends around the overall Cliffy’s group.

Historic Corner Inlet Maps

The club is also proud to preserve a small piece of local maritime history.

Many years ago, likely during the commercial fishing era of the 1960s, members created two detailed maps of Corner Inlet. These were originally traced from historic nautical charts and then carefully hand-drawn onto parchment.

The maps were later included in an old publication describing the inlet and its fishing grounds. Only one copy of this book is known to exist today. Importantly, the maps capture many of the traditional and colloquial place names used by generations of local fishers.

Purchase Maps

These unique maps are available for purchase through the club in both A4 and A2 sizes. Each map is fully laminated, making them durable and practical for keeping on board your boat while exploring the waters of Corner Inlet.
