Fishing Competitions

Our designated waters extend from the western side of the Western Port entrance, excluding Phillip Island and Port Phillip Bay, and continue east along the Victorian Coastline to the seaboard border of New South Wales.  Club waters extend to the 3 nautical mile (NM) limit of Victorian Waters. The Cliffy’s group is outside the 3NM limit but are within Victorian jurisdiction therefore the 3 NM limit extends around the overall Cliffy’s group

 

Competitions run for a month at a time and final weigh-in is by noon on the last day of the month. Competition results are published at the next monthly meeting.  There are areas of Marine Park in the vicinity of Wilson’s Promontory and these must not be fished.

 

Away competitions commence at 6am on Saturday morning, and final weigh-in will be at midday Sunday unless otherwise notified. Weigh-in on site.

 

Members may have their personal scales checked by the Weighmaster and if approved, they can be used for weighing other than at final weigh-ins. Competition and Best of Species fish may also be weighed on any registered scales, at Alberton Marine or Daryl Mills’ or Ian Blackmore’s.

Forms are available from the weighmaster or Club Secretary. It is a good idea to have a couple of forms in the car or your tacklebox if you are travelling away to fish.

 

To promote and support sustainability “catch and release” is encouraged. Where catch and release have been undertaken, it is best to have a photo of the fish on the current VRFish size ruler and/or on the weighing scale.

 

Copies of the ruler and recreational fishing handbook are available in the clubrooms. Weigh the fish in the net and then weigh the net after the fish is released.
